osteoclastoma
Definition
A tumor that destroys bone tissue
Clinical context
A 35-year-old man presents with a painful swelling on his proximal tibia that has been progressively worsening over 6 months. X-ray shows a well-defined lytic lesion with a 'soap bubble' appearance and no evidence of calcification. The lesion has destroyed significant portions of the bone cortex. Histopathology reveals multinucleated giant cells and mononuclear stromal cells within a fibrous stroma.
Mnemonic
Osteoclastoma destroys bone - think 'Osteo' + 'clast' = bone destroying tumor
