osteoid osteoma
Definition
A benign tumor composed of immature bone tissue that resembles normal bone but lacks mature bone matrix
Clinical context
A 22-year-old male presents with progressive dull pain in his left thigh for 6 months. Physical examination reveals a palpable mass with tenderness over the proximal tibia. X-ray shows a well-defined radiolucent lesion with a central radiopaque nidus. The patient's symptoms are relieved by aspirin therapy.
