Definition

A group of rare autoimmune skin disorders characterized by the formation of blisters on the skin and mucous membranes

Clinical context

A 65-year-old man presents with painful blisters on his chest and mouth that have been present for 2 weeks. The lesions are flaccid and easily rupture, leaving raw, painful surfaces. On examination, there are multiple bullae on the trunk and oral mucosa. Direct immunofluorescence shows IgG deposits at the intercellular space of epidermal cells.
