Definition
A condition affecting the peripheral nerves, causing symptoms such as numbness, tingling, and pain, typically in the hands and feet
Clinical context
A 58-year-old diabetic patient presents with gradual onset of numbness and tingling in his feet that has been progressing over several months. The symptoms are worse at night and he reports difficulty walking without stumbling. On examination, he has decreased sensation to light touch and vibration in the lower extremities with normal motor function.
