Abnormal uterine bleeding characterized by frequent menstrual periods with normal or heavy flow

Clinical context

A 28-year-old woman presents with a 6-month history of menstrual periods occurring every 20-25 days instead of her usual 28-day cycle. She reports normal to heavy flow each time but with increased frequency. On examination, her uterus and ovaries are normal size with no masses. A pregnancy test is negative.
