prolactinoma
Definition
A tumor that produces prolactin, a hormone that stimulates milk production
Clinical context
A 32-year-old woman presents with galactorrhea and amenorrhea for the past 2 months. She denies any headaches or visual disturbances. Physical examination reveals bilateral milky discharge from the nipples. Laboratory studies show elevated prolactin levels with normal thyroid function. MRI of the brain shows a small mass in the pituitary gland.
