Definition
A condition characterized by the formation of excess fibrous connective tissue in the lungs, leading to scarring and stiffness of lung tissue
Clinical context
A 65-year-old man presents with progressive dyspnea and dry cough over 6 months. He has a history of asbestos exposure and exhibits crackles on lung examination. Pulmonary function tests show restrictive lung disease with reduced diffusion capacity. Chest X-ray reveals bilateral reticular opacities.
