Definition
A condition characterized by purple or reddish discoloration of the skin or mucous membranes due to bleeding into the tissues
Clinical context
A 23-year-old female presents with multiple purpura lesions on her lower extremities that do not blanch with pressure. She denies trauma but reports joint pain and abdominal pain. Physical examination reveals palpable purpura consistent with vasculitis. Laboratory studies show elevated inflammatory markers and positive ANCA titers.
