Definition
A condition characterized by the narrowing of the pylorus, the muscular opening between the stomach and the duodenum, leading to obstruction of gastric emptying
Clinical context
A 3-week-old infant presents with projectile vomiting after feeding, weight loss, and visible peristaltic waves across the abdomen. The infant appears dehydrated with electrolyte imbalances. On examination, a palpable olive-sized mass is felt in the upper right quadrant. This constellation of symptoms in an infant strongly suggests pyloric stenosis.
