Definition
A malignant tumor arising from the renal tubular epithelial cells of the kidney
Clinical context
A 65-year-old male presents with a 2-month history of right flank pain and a palpable mass. He also reports unintentional weight loss and hematuria. On examination, a large, fixed mass is palpable in the right upper quadrant. Imaging reveals a large renal mass with vascular invasion. The patient undergoes radical nephrectomy with pathologic confirmation of clear cell renal cell carcinoma.
