Definition
A type of cardiomyopathy characterized by stiff or rigid heart muscle that impairs the heart's ability to fill with blood during diastole
Clinical context
A 58-year-old man presents with progressive dyspnea on exertion and peripheral edema. Echocardiogram shows normal left ventricular systolic function but reduced diastolic filling with normal ventricular wall thickness. The patient's symptoms improve with bed rest but worsen with physical activity.
