rhabdomyoma
Definition
A benign tumor composed of muscle fibers with a distinctive rod-like appearance under microscopic examination
Clinical context
A 35-year-old woman presents with a painless mass in her left arm that has been slowly growing over the past year. Physical examination reveals a firm, well-circumscribed lump beneath the skin. Histopathological examination of the excised tumor shows distinctive rod-like structures within the muscle fibers. The tumor is diagnosed as a rhabdomyoma, a benign neoplasm composed of muscle fibers with characteristic rod-like morphology.
