inflammation of the fallopian tube
Clinical context
A 24-year-old woman presents with lower abdominal pain and fever. She reports purulent vaginal discharge and pain during intercourse. Pelvic examination reveals cervical motion tenderness and adnexal tenderness. Culture of cervical secretions grows Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The patient is diagnosed with salpingitis secondary to gonococcal infection.
