Definition

A type of tumor that arises from germ cells, particularly in the testes or ovaries, characterized by the presence of semi-mature or immature germ cells

Clinical context

A 28-year-old male presents with a painless mass in his left testicle. Physical examination reveals a firm, non-tender mass. Imaging shows a well-circumscribed lesion in the testis with homogeneous enhancement. Laboratory studies show elevated tumor markers including AFP and hCG. The patient undergoes orchiectomy with pathological examination revealing a tumor composed of large cells with abundant cytoplasm and prominent nucleoli.
