Clinical context
A 28-year-old patient presents with facial pain, nasal congestion, and purulent nasal discharge that has persisted for 7 days. On examination, there is tenderness over the maxillary sinuses. The patient reports worsening symptoms in the morning that improve throughout the day. A CT scan of the sinuses reveals mucosal thickening without evidence of acute infection.
