Definition

Abnormal dilation of small blood vessels, particularly capillaries and venules, often appearing as fine red lines or web-like patterns on the skin or mucous membranes

Clinical context

A 45-year-old woman presents with multiple fine red lines on her face and chest that have been present for several years. She reports that these lesions become more prominent when she exercises or blushes. On examination, the lesions are small, thread-like vessels that do not blanch with pressure.
