Definition

Inflammation of blood vessels accompanied by clot formation

Clinical context

A 28-year-old smoker presents with painful ulcers and cyanosis of his toes, along with palpable cords and diminished pulses in the affected extremity. The patient has a history of recurrent migratory superficial thrombophlebitis. These findings are classic for thromboangiitis obliterans (Buerger's disease).
