thyroid adenoma
Definition
A benign tumor arising from glandular tissue in the thyroid gland
Clinical context
A 35-year-old woman presents with a painless neck mass that has been slowly enlarging over several months. Physical examination reveals a firm, non-tender nodule in the thyroid gland. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy shows benign follicular cells arranged in a typical adenomatous pattern. The patient has no evidence of lymph node enlargement or distant metastasis.
