Definition
A pathological condition caused by excessive production or action of thyroid hormones, characterized by symptoms such as weight loss, increased heart rate, anxiety, and heat intolerance
Clinical context
A 28-year-old woman presents to the emergency department with a 2-week history of weight loss, palpitations, anxiety, and heat intolerance. She reports that her symptoms have been progressively worsening despite adequate sleep and nutrition. On examination, she has a fine tremor, warm skin, and a heart rate of 110 beats per minute. Her TSH is suppressed and T3/T4 levels are elevated.
