Inflammation of the kidney tubules and interstitial tissue
Clinical context
A 35-year-old woman presents with fever, rash, and decreased urine output over 3 days. She recently started allopurinol for gout. Urinalysis shows eosinophilic cells and hematuria. Kidney biopsy reveals inflammatory infiltrates in the tubules and interstitial tissue. The most likely diagnosis is tubulointerstitial nephritis.
