ureteroplasty
Definition
A surgical procedure to repair or reconstruct the ureter
Clinical context
A 45-year-old patient presents with severe hydronephrosis and recurrent urinary tract infections due to a stricture in the mid-ureter. Imaging reveals a 2 cm segment of ureteral stenosis that cannot be managed with endoscopic techniques. The patient undergoes ureteroplasty to restore normal ureteral continuity and prevent further kidney damage.
Mnemonic
Ureteroplasty = U-repair (ureter) + plastY (reconstruction)
