urethrectomy

surgical removal of the urethra
Clinical context
A 68-year-old male with severe urethral stricture and recurrent urinary tract infections requires surgical intervention. The patient has failed conservative management and imaging reveals extensive urethral damage. The urologist performs a urethrectomy to remove the diseased urethral segment and reconstruct the urinary pathway. Postoperatively, the patient requires temporary urinary diversion with a suprapubic catheter.
