vasovasostomy
Definition
A surgical procedure creating an opening between two vessels, typically used in reconstructive surgery to restore patency of a vessel by connecting it to another vessel
Clinical context
A 32-year-old man presents after a motor vehicle accident with traumatic injury to his left upper extremity. Physical examination reveals absent radial pulse and cyanosis of the hand. CT angiography shows complete occlusion of the brachial artery with no collateral circulation. The patient undergoes vasovasostomy to restore blood flow to the ischemic limb.
Mnemonic
Vasovasostomy = Vessel to Vessel connection - think 'V-V' for vascular anastomosis
