A medical device that diverts cerebrospinal fluid from the brain's ventricles to the peritoneal cavity for drainage
Clinical context
A 65-year-old man presents with worsening headache, nausea, and gait instability over the past week. He underwent ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement 2 years ago for hydrocephalus. On examination, he has papilledema and positive Lhermitte's sign. The shunt appears to be functioning properly on imaging.
