Definition

A yellowish plaque or lesion, typically found on the eyelids, caused by lipid deposits

Clinical context

A 65-year-old man presents to dermatology with yellowish plaques on his upper and lower eyelids. He has a history of hyperlipidemia and recently experienced a myocardial infarction. On examination, the lesions are soft, waxy, and bilateral. The patient is concerned about the cosmetic appearance but is otherwise asymptomatic.
