Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 April 2026

Etymed ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect through the Etymed mobile app and how we use it.

1. Data we collect

  • Email address — used to create and authenticate your account.
  • Review history — ratings and timestamps from your flashcard sessions, used to schedule reviews via the FSRS algorithm and (optionally) to optimize the scheduler per user.
  • Progress data — XP, streak days, lesson completion, for gamification and streak tracking.
  • Device push token — if you enable daily reminders, we store a Firebase Cloud Messaging token tied to your account.
  • Basic technical info — app version, platform (iOS/Android), timezone, for bug diagnosis and sending reminders at the right local time.

2. How we use your data

  • To personalize your study schedule using the FSRS spaced-repetition algorithm.
  • To maintain your account and sync progress across devices.
  • To send daily review reminders (only if you opt in).
  • To diagnose crashes and improve the app.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers or third-party marketers.

3. Where data is stored

All user data is stored on servers hosted in the European Union (DigitalOcean, Frankfurt / FRA1 region). Push notifications are delivered via Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google).

4. Your rights

You can request a copy of your data or request deletion of your account at any time by emailing support@etymed.io. We will respond within 30 days.

Under GDPR and similar regulations, you have the right to access, rectify, port, and erase your personal data.

5. Cookies

This website (etymed.io) does not set any cookies or use analytics trackers. The mobile app stores a small amount of local state (e.g., onboarding progress) using the device's standard preferences system. No cross-site tracking occurs.

6. Children

Etymed is intended for medical students and healthcare learners aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13, in compliance with COPPA. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.

7. Medical disclaimer

Etymed is an educational tool. It does not provide medical advice and must not be used to diagnose or treat any condition. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical guidance.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app and reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
